Supporting Your
INSIDE PUBLIC SECTOR LEADERSHIP is a self-learning program. Every person will have a unique learning experience depending on your current job, your work history, your background, your personal style and the amount of time you're prepared to commit to learning with us. To support the integration of the program learning and accelerate the impact on your performance, we recommend a number of ways to help you achieve results.
#1:
Take the IPSL Self-Assessment Survey before the program begins to assess your Political Acumen and to help set expectations for learning outcomes. Take it again after the self-study period ends to gage your learning progress. #2:
Sign up for IPSL and start reviewing materials in the Resource Room - available to registered participants 3 weeks before the program begins. #3:
Continue the conversation after each session with our Master Mentors and other participants in the new IPSL Discussion Forum, available to all registered attendees. #4:
During the program review the videos more than once and explore the Resource Room frequently. #5:
Keep a Journal or note book to record your questions, key learnings or next steps. #6:
Attend as an Intact Team so that you can discuss what you heard immediately after each session. Join a Study Group of learners who are participating in the program at the same time you are. |
#7:
Start experimenting with your learning. Meet someone new for coffee, change the way you respond, pay attention to what your colleagues do, ask for feedback. Just start practicing. #8:
Group Coaching can be offered at the end of the Program to support participants attending from one Division or Ministry wanting to explore further development. Some of our faculty offer this service - see Next Steps. Some jurisdictions also offer internal coaching /facilitation services through their Public Service Agency or Civil Service Commission. #9:
Work with an Executive or Leadership Coach to explore those aspects of your experience and skills that you want to improve. Some of our faculty are available to support you in this regard - see Next Steps. You may also want to take advantage of pre-qualified lists of Executive Coaches that are available in many jurisdictions. #10:
Individual Mentoring is a way to develop your skills by talking with an expert about specific issues you are facing in your work. Some of our faculty offer this service - see Next Steps. You may also want to contact a former boss or retired ADM or DM who you know or have admired. |
